EVERYONE IS WELCOME AT THIS LIVELY NEIGHBORHOOD PARTY
CLEVELAND, OH – In Ireland “hooley” is a word for a lively gathering. In Cleveland, The Hooley™ is West Park’s annual day-long block party. On Saturday, May 13 from 12 – 8 p.m., The Hooley on Kamm’s Corners™ (Lorain Avenue from West 165th to Rocky River Drive) kicks off Cleveland’s robust community festival season with crafts, live music, dancing, pipes and drums and plenty of family fun. “So many people’s lives have intersected with this West Park neighborhood that we think of The Hooley as a giant homecoming celebration,” says Steve Lorenz, Executive Director of Kamm’s Corners Development Corporation, organizer of the free, family-friendly festivities. “We’re inviting generations of past and future residents to come together and discover or, in many cases rediscover, what they love about the community.” This year The Hooley™ is presented by Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital.
Everyone knows that good food is the key to any good party and The Hooley™ is no exception. In addition to the diverse fare available at the pubs and eateries lining Lorain Avenue, kettle corn, ice cream, freshly squeezed lemonade and other festival staples will be available. “If you’re looking for something substantial for lunch or dinner, The Hooley’s newest culinary offerings include Hatfield’s Goode Grub, The Hub, and BOMBA Tacos,” says Lorenz. “And, of course, many of our neighborhood restaurants will have booths on the street, too.”
Two entertainment stages showcase a variety of musical acts and performers. “The main stage features artists who play everything from Celtic to classic rock,” explains Lorenz, noting that veteran rockers Tie Dye Harvest—celebrating 25 years in the spotlight—are sure to be crowd-pleasers with Clevelanders. Meanwhile, the Dollar Bank Family Stage will be home-base for high-spirited Irish dancers, high-kicking karate students, and other acts.
The family-friendly activities continue at the nearby Youth Center with an obstacle course, 30-foot fire truck slide, and pop-a-shot game operated by St. Mark Parent Club. Meanwhile, on West 168th Street, shoppers of all ages can peruse Artist Alley’s selection of jewelry, toys, clothing, home décor, Irish-themed gifts, and handmade arts and crafts curated by My ReClaimed Life. “With new businesses in the area, more than 100 vendors, children’s activities, and two packed entertainment stages, the eighth annual Hooley will something for everyone,” says Lorenz.
In addition to the generosity of Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital and aforementioned sponsors, The Hooley on Kamm’s Corners™ is made possible with support from its vendors, participants, the City of Cleveland, Cleveland City Council, Neighborhood Family Practice, West Park YMCA and the residents of Cuyahoga County through a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture.
